Fredericka Sprague Perry was the granddaughter of Frederick and Anna Douglass, being the daughter or Rosetta Douglass and Nathan Sprague. Later in life, she wrote reminiscences of her famous grandfather in his twilight years.
“When at home, the patriarch daily observed ‘two distinct periods…his Work-time and his Play-time.’ When at work behind his ‘closed study door,’ remembered Fredericka, who was born in 1872, the children knew that their grandfather would be ‘greatly displeased by our noise.’ They would ‘tip-toe down the hall’ in anticipation. When the door ‘swung back on its hinges, we knew we were in for fun!’”[1]
Fredericka Sprague Perry died on October 23, 1943 at the age of 71. She was buried in Highland Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
